OUR MISSION
- We primarily assist women victims of domestic violence and their children
- We are working towards a social change to eliminate domestic violence and its impact on women and children through a feminist approach
FEMINIST APPROACH:
In women’s shelters, the feminist approach is based upon an analysis which views domestic violence as a social strategy of control over women and children
FEMINIST INTERVENTION:
- Rejects the claim that female issues are only individual, intrapsychic or relational issues
- Considers women suffering more like common living conditions resulting from inequalities in our society
- Rejects the notion of top-down therapeutic relationship
- Aims at establishing a more equal relationship between people involved
- Focuses on women, on rebuilding their self-esteem and facilitating their self-empowerment
- Prioritizes women and child protection and safety
- Is based on the acknowledgment that every woman has the potential to break free of the cycle of violence and to regain control of her life
One goal is to make women aware that…
- They are alone in their situation
- They are not responsible for their difficulties
- There is a relationship between their personal suffering and the socio-political oppression.
